There are three types of cultivation systems:
Self-consumption
Its objective is to satisfy the family's needs, although sometimes part of
the harvest or the surplus is sold. It represents 70-80% percent of the total
corn sowed land in our country, and it is associated with other crops, such
as bean, broad bean and castor-oil plant.
Seasonal
Its main objective is its commercialization and for specific industrial usage,
such as flour and oil production. It represents 15-20% of the total corn sowed
land.
Irrigation
Its objective is corn commercialization for flour, oil, fodder, and balanced
food production. The system can be either total irrigation or support irrigation
during sowing and the critical cultivation periods when seasonal sowing is
scarce. It represents 5-10% of the nation's land surface.
